Saint Hilda's House

through the gates and into the city

F.A.Qs

How much will a year at St Hilda’s Cost?

A year at St Hilda’s shouldn’t cost you any money at all.  Christ Church provides rent free accommodation right at the heart of New Haven and food costs are covered by a weekly allowance.  Corps members are also given a $400 monthly allowance, which (though it may not sound like a lot) can go a long way when all the essentials of life are covered.

What about medical insurance?

Your insurance will be covered as part of the program, though if you are on your parents' plan you are free to remain on that, depending on your age and their plan.

How about paying my student loans?

St Hilda’s looks to provide options for you to defer your loan payments, and will help you make such arrangements.

Do I have to be Anglican to apply?

You do not have to be Anglican to apply: though preference is usually given to Episcopal applicants, diversity of traditional backgrounds is also something we actively seek.  That said: Hildans do make an explicit commitment to actively participate in a very High-Anglican tradition of worship, which should be kept in mind when applying!

Am I going to be forced to evangelize?

In a word: no.  In another word: yes.   St Francis famously said “Preach the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words.”  The belief at St Hilda’s is that your actions will evangelize the Gospel and that  by simple living, community action, participation in worship, and deep questioning you will be preaching a vibrant gospel message that will make your very living during this time a sermon as eloquent as any that can be heard.  This is evangelism by relationship, through which we can share the Gospel message of hope, love, and charity.

Do vacations exist at St Hilda’s?

How much vacation time Hildans get can depend to some extent on whether particular community placements take public holidays.  However, all corps members will have time off at Thanksgiving and at least two weeks at Christmas.

How many corps members do you accept?

Currently, St Hilda’s accepts up to 7 corps members.

What is the age range?

The age range for corps member at St Hilda’s is 21-30.

I’m interested in applying, but want to know more.  What should I do?

You should get in touch!  Email Fr Carlos at Cdelatorre@christchurchnh.org and we’ll answer any questions you have or put you in touch with one of our current corps members.
